Directional Control Valves Functions and Selection Criteria

Hello! In this week’s post, we’ll discuss the functions, types, and selection criteria of directional control valves.

What Are Directional Control Valves?

Directional control valves play a crucial role in hydraulic systems, ensuring the system operates efficiently and safely by directing fluid to desired actuators. At HIDROS GROUP, we provide wide range of control valves suitable to your needs with our extensive industry experience. Let’s dive into the details!

Monoblock Directional Control Valves

These valves are manufactured as a single piece, making them compact and purpose-built. The key feature of monoblock control valves is their one-piece construction. The number of controls can not be increased or decreased. For example, our Z80 control valve can be configured with 1 to 6 levers but can not be modified once chosen. Explore our Z50, Z80, and P120 series for common monoblock control valves.

Sectional Directional Control Valves

These valves are more modular, created by combining multiple sections. The number of sections can be adjusted as per customer requirements and can also be modified by the users themselves. Anti-shock and anti-cavitation valves can be added to each section. The main feature distinguishing these from monoblock valves is the ability to change the number of sections as needed. They are ideal for heavy duty applications. Our popular models include PC70, PC100, and ZC70 series.

Special Directional Control Valves

These are designed for specific applications such as fishing boats, wood splitters, and sensor-based plows. For instance, the P81 log splitter valve is optimized for wood splitting machines.

Selection Criteria

Appropriate Spool Type and Control

The primary function of directing fluid is carried out by the spools within the valves. Users should select spools that match their usage needs. The controls of these spools are equally important, with options like spring-centered, detented, electric, pneumatic, and electro-hydraulic controls available. At HIDROS GROUP, we assist our customers in making the right choices.

System Requirements

The pressure and flow requirements of the system must be determined to select a suitable control valve. For instance, a user needing 90-100 l/min flow should opt for the PC100 series over the PC70 series.

Application Area

Consider the operating conditions and environment where the control valve will be used and take necessary precautions.

Size and Installation

Ensure the control valve’s size and installation specifications match the system requirements.
